Location: Melbourne, VIC (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
We are seeking a technically accomplished and leadership-oriented Team Lead – Distribution Design Engineer to join our established engineering consultancy in Melbourne. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level project strategy and technical execution. You will lead a dedicated team of engineers and drafters to deliver complex electrical distribution projects, ensuring all designs meet stringent safety, reliability, and regulatory standards for major Victorian utility infrastructure.
Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Distribution Designers. You will be responsible for workload management, technical guidance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Technical Oversight: Act as the Lead Design Verifier, ensuring all overhead and underground reticulation designs comply with Australian standards and specific Victorian service and installation rules.
Project Delivery: Manage the end-to-end design lifecycle for brownfield and greenfield projects, including URD (Urban Residential Development), indoor/outdoor substations, and network reinforcements.
Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external partners, local councils, and civil contractors, navigating complex approvals and site-specific challenges.
Quality & Safety: Drive a "Safety by Design" approach, ensuring all projects minimize risk to the public and field crews while maintaining cost-efficiency.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need a deep understanding of the Australian electrical distribution landscape:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience: 7+ years in distribution design, with a proven track record in a senior or supervisory capacity within the Australian power sector.
Standards Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of Victorian industry standards (e.g., VESI, VEDN) and AS/NZS 3000.
Design Scope: Proven experience with 11kv and 22kv networks, including protection coordination and voltage drop calculations.
Grid Impact: Your work directly supports the reliability of the Victorian power grid during the critical transition to renewable energy integration.
Flexibility: We offer genuine hybrid working arrangements to balance site visits with office and home-based work.
Career Path: As our Melbourne footprint grows, your path to Associate or Principal level is clearly defined and mentored.
At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
